Garth Brooks - The Gift Lyrics
A poor orphan girl named mariaWas walking to market one dayShe stopped for a rest by the roadsideWhere a bird with a broken wing layA few moments passed till she saw itFor its feathers were covered with sandBut soon clean and wrapped it was travellingIn the warmth of marias small handShe happily gave her last pesoOn a cage made of rushes and twineShe fed it loose corn from the marketAnd watched it grow stronger with timeNow the christmas eve service was comingAnd the church shone with tinsel and lightAnd all of the townfolks brought presentsTo lay by the manger that nightThere were diamonds and incenseAnd perfumesIn packages fit for a kingBut for one ragged bird in a small cageMaria had nothing to bringShe waited till just before midnightSo no one would see her go inAnd crying she knelt by the mangerFor her gift was unworthy of himThen a voice spoke to her through the darknessMaria, what brings you to meIf the bird in the cage is your offeringOpen the door and let me seeThough she trembled, she did as he asked herAnd out of the cage the bird flewSoaring up into the raftersOn a wing that had healed good as newJust then the midnight bells rang outAnd the little bird started to singA song that no words could recaptureWhose beauty was fit for a kingNow maria felt blessed just to listenTo that cascade of notes sweet and longAs her offerings was lifted to heavenBy the very first nightingales song
