Bruce Hornsby - Country Doctor Lyrics
B. r. hornsbyDeep down in the south countyOver where the paper mill runsLived a man, a young country doctorWith the perfect wife and sonsWell he worked his daysAnd sundays hed prayAnd nobody knewWhy the wife slowly withered awayI saw the country doctor, to ask him whatWas wrong with meHe was caught unaware, accidental and devil may careBehind the curtain I see, two shadows in front of meOh nobody know the trouble Ive seenMy guess, there was another womanAnd with the kids and the money there was a lot to loseHe said she had an rare afflictionAnd he was doing all he could doAnd we all believed himFelt so sorry and thenI thought once he was a fine manNow I dont remember whenI saw the country doctor, to ask him whatWas wrong with meHe was caught unaware, accidental and devil may careBehind the curtain I see, bottles unmarked in front of meWhoa nobody knows the trouble Ive seenI saw the country doctor, in a place he didnt see meWay out in the middle of the night where he thoughtNo one could seeOver there in the parlor room, making eyes,Hands roaming freeSomeone soon must know, the trouble Ive seenDid you think about the young onesOne day theyll know it was youAnd if they let you off one dayWho then will you turn toAnd my wife remembers one thingShe said I remember kind of strangelyAt a friends wedding one timeIt was a look that he gave me
